What are actions and action permissions?
Explanation of terms
This manual occasionally uses the term "actions" or "action permissions". This explains what they are.
All functions listed in the menu for a wide variety of purposes are called actions.
You will also find it as part of the URL of the function you are currently using. In the example, it is the Personalwolke start page.
(Note: if the "extension" .cact appears instead of the "extension" .act, it is an action that has been specially adapted = configured, i.e. customized, for your company.)
Action permissions are tied to your tasks in your organization. For example, persons who are responsible for HR administration have different action permissions than, say, a manager.
To make it easier to manage action permissions, i.e. the usability of certain
functions, they are generally tied to roles (HR, management, travel expense
accounting) or to membership in certain permission groups.
For example, membership in the permission group "ALL" grants general use of
Personalwolke for the modules used in your company. The action for editing
person data, in turn, is tied to the "HR" role.
These actions appear in the side menu of the user. Here you can see all the actions you are authorized to perform.
Who can query actions or change/assign permissions for actions?
The actions for querying and assigning actions via roles or group assignments can generally be performed by holders of the HR role.
Example:
- Open Administration → Groups
- On this page, you can check some existing groups, for example the permission group ALL, i.e. a group with general actions such as calendar, journal, group calendar.
- Open this group and click the "Persons" tab
- Using the "New person assignment" button, a person can be selected and assigned to this group. This person then also receives the action permissions of this group (they "inherit" the permissions from the group).
- In this view you will also see a tab called "Action permissions", which lists all actions that members of this group can automatically perform.
