System Requirements

for Update

Due to changes in the database schema, an update is only possible from a version >=3.3.x. That is, it is not possible to update from a version older than 3.3 to the current version. This would lead to problems when running the update scripts and subsequently to inconsistencies in the DB schema (and thus prevent the correct start of Webdesk)!

Minimum System Requirements

The minimum Java runtime is now 1.7.x. The Webdesk setup package is delivered with

• Tomcat 7.0
• Sun JRE 1.7

There are still installers for 32-bit and 64-bit (the Ta connector is only available as a 32-bit package!). In general, the use of the 64-bit package is recommended, since the Webdesk system is relatively memory-intensive and reaches the memory limits of 32-bit Java installations with Tomcat (approx. 1.5 GB) relatively quickly even with smaller numbers of users.

New Modules in This Release:

• HR-Expert
• This new Webdesk module is a standalone application for the HR manager "Webdesk HR Expert" in its own URL space: http://hostname/webdesk3/hr-expert/

Switch to Day-Exact Precision

Since an HR management module was added to Webdesk with this release, which is based on the same tables as the Webdesk core, the semantics of the validity periods of persons, groups, person-group relationships and group-group relationships had to be changed. Previously, it was possible, through manual creation/deletion, to create validity periods of objects that were shorter than 1 day. Furthermore, intraday times were always used for start and end points. This has now been changed to day-exact precision .

To ensure data consistency for existing objects as well, a consistency check of these validity periods is performed when Webdesk starts. If this check has a negative result, the start of the Webdesk server is stopped with a notice that certain validity inconsistencies in the database must be fixed first. It is recommended to have the update to 3.6 carried out by a consultant of Workflow who is trained in these potentially necessary manual database maintenance tasks.
